While the earth remains

September 7. It’s become the day that I get serious about counting my blessings.  It’s also the day that I have begun to recognize that some things that have always mattered, don’t really matter in light of eternity.

Today, like most September 7’s, there is a feeling that Fall is on its way- that the earth is getting ready to progress from one season into the next.  That enduring promise from Genesis 8:22 once more proving true- “seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

While the earth remains.

September 7, today, I am remembering a lot of people who are not with me anymore. People who have gone on to Glory.  I’m missing them, and wondering when the Glad Reunion will happen.

And I’m remembering that there’s a reason why I’m still here. There’s still work to be done.  Am I doing it? Am I faithfully about my Father’s business with these days that I’m here?  Am I caring for the souls around me, the ones He has carefully and intentionally placed in my path.

Oh, yes, if September 7 has taught me anything at all, it’s that everything God does, He does with perfect intentionality.

While the earth remains.

The days are growing shorter as the seasons begin to change. Our time here is growing shorter, as every single day we are closer to that twinkling moment when believers will be caught up in the air.

Am I redeeming the time that I’ve been given?  Are you? After all, the days, most certainly, are evil.

While the earth remains.

While He patiently tarries.

Count your blessings, tend to souls, fill your lamp.

Rest in your God, your Redeemer, your Soon Coming King.

That’s what September 7 has taught me.
