In the act of washing the disciples’ feet, Jesus shows the centrality of humility, grace, and kindness to the way that we love others. He shows that no task is too menial, that no person is too great, and that no person is insignificant. He shows that a true expression of our love for others involves putting aside everything we believe to be true about ourselves, other than the fact that we are His, and allowing our love for Him to overflow into our willingness to lower ourselves to serve others.
